Our Students

Who We Serve

Northwestern Academy for Chicago Public Schools is designed to help low-income, academically talented Chicago Public Schools high school students prepare for selective colleges. Ninth-graders who qualify for the free/reduced lunch program and are not in a Chicago Public Schools selective enrollment school are the target group invited to apply for the Academy. Northwestern Academy will select students who demonstrate an aptitude for strong long-term academic performance, the motivation, and willingness to engage in intensive learning experiences, and a commitment to excellence.

The Academy serves students and their families with a range of programs. These include school-year and summer classes, academic tutoring, college counseling, test preparation, and family workshops. We currently serve over 300 students in high school and college alumni. Ninety percent of the students we serve are the first generation in their families to go to college. Eighty-six percent of the students we work with qualify as Pell Grant eligible.
