Northwestern Academy for Chicago Public Schools is designed to help low-income, academically talented Chicago Public Schools high school students prepare for selective colleges. Ninth-graders who qualify for the free/reduced lunch program and are not in a Chicago Public Schools selective enrollment school are the target group invited to apply for the Academy. Northwestern Academy will select students who demonstrate an aptitude for strong long-term academic performance, the motivation and willingness to engage in intensive learning experiences, and a commitment to excellence.
The Academy serves students and their families with a range of programs. These include school-year and summer classes, academic tutoring, college counseling, test preparation and family workshops. Eventually, 200 students in grades 9 through 12 will be part of Northwestern Academy.
